Surface Preparation, Painting & Coatings
Coatings don’t fail “all at once” — they fail at details: edges, welds, fixings, water traps and underside steel where moisture and salts sit longest. We deliver rope access surface preparation and coating works to restore protection in the areas that matter most, from targeted remedials to planned repaint campaigns. The aim is simple: stop corrosion progressing, extend service life, and leave you with a clear record of what was treated and what should be scheduled next.

Coating repairs and repaint campaigns where access is the constraint
We restore coatings where access and detailing make the difference — edges, brackets, interfaces and exposed zones where breakdown starts early. Rope access allows localised prep, feathering and repainting without over-building access or shutting large areas down. Work is delivered to the specified system with the right surface cleanliness, film build and curing controls so protection is reinstated properly, not just “touched up.”
High-level coating work is only as good as the preparation beneath it. If loose material is left behind, edges aren’t treated, or contamination remains in pits and seams, the “new” system starts failing almost immediately. Our approach is inspection-led and methodical: we identify the corrosion drivers and breakdown patterns first, then prepare and coat in manageable zones so standards don’t slip as the job progresses.
Rope access allows our technicians to work directly on the steelwork without turning small scopes into large access builds. We focus on the awkward, failure-prone areas—undersides, brackets, stiffeners, handrails, supports, clamps and complex geometry—where conventional access is slow or disruptive. Works are delivered to the agreed coating specification and site constraints, with practical controls for overspray, debris, protection of adjacent assets, and curing windows so the coating system performs as intended.
Typical tasks
- Inspection and defect mapping prior to coating works
- Mechanical preparation (scraping, needle-gun, grinding, power-tool clean)
- Feathering edges, removing failed coatings and treating corrosion hotspots
- Stripe coating to edges, welds and complex details
- Touch-up and maintenance coating application to specification
- Small-area containment/screening setup (where practical)
- Photo records and handover notes for future maintenance planning
Assets & locations
- Structural steelwork, gantries, walkways, ladders and handrails
- Pipe bridges, towers, platforms, access stairways and roof steel
- External plant frameworks and high-level service areas
- Ports and coastal assets exposed to salt and prevailing weather
- Bridges and infrastructure where rope access is suitable
- Cladding supports, brackets and secondary steelwork around façades and roof lines
Planning, environment & safety
Coating works are planned around weather windows, site permits and protection of surrounding operations. Rope access is delivered as a complete system with two-rope protection and a workable rescue plan, and we apply disciplined dropped-object controls and tool tethering because coating prep generates loose materials and uses multiple hand tools overhead. Exclusion zones are kept practical and clearly controlled, and surface protection/containment is applied where needed so debris, overspray and waste are managed without creating problems for adjacent assets or other trades.

Arrange rope access coating support
If you need localised coating repairs or a planned repaint campaign on hard-to-access steelwork, we can scope a practical approach around your access constraints, permits and operating hours. We’ll agree the coating system expectations up front, then deliver the work in controlled zones with tidy handover notes that support future maintenance planning.
