Gas Monitoring, Ventilation & BA Support

Atmosphere control is the backbone of confined space safety. We provide gas monitoring, forced ventilation and breathing apparatus (BA) support for confined space entries where the risks include oxygen deficiency/enrichment, flammable atmospheres or harmful vapours. Working alongside your entry team and permit system, we help maintain stable conditions, clear records, and disciplined BA control so work can proceed safely and efficiently.

Atmosphere control that supports safe entry and productive work

Safe entry depends on the atmosphere being understood and controlled from start to finish. We provide calibrated gas monitoring, set up and manage ventilation to suit the space, and support teams working under BA where required. Readings and controls are maintained throughout the entry so conditions remain stable while the task is completed.

Confined spaces can become hazardous quickly — not always because the task is complex, but because conditions change. Reduced oxygen, toxic contaminants and flammable atmospheres are recognised core hazards, and the controls must be reliable for the full duration of the entry. HSE We support teams by setting up and maintaining the practical elements that keep entries controlled: suitable gas monitoring for the identified hazards, ventilation that actually moves air where it’s needed, and communications that keep the entry supervisor and entrants aligned.
Where respiratory protective equipment is required, it normally needs to be breathing apparatus rather than lighter forms of RPE, and it must be selected, managed and controlled properly. Our BA support is built around calm, repeatable control: BA readiness checks, cylinder/air management, entry monitoring and logging, and clean interfaces with the permit-to-work process. City & Guilds confined space qualifications are designed for those who enter, supervise or manage confined spaces, reflecting the need for defined roles and controlled systems during entry.
The result is straightforward: stable conditions, clearer decisions, fewer delays, and documentation that stands up to review.

Typical tasks

  • Pre-entry and in-entry atmospheric monitoring support (logs and trend awareness)
  • Selection and deployment of suitable monitoring equipment for the identified hazards
  • Forced ventilation set-up that targets the workface (not just the access point)
  • Support to entry control arrangements, communications checks and shift readiness
  • BA support for works requiring respiratory protection (set readiness, control board/entry monitoring, cylinder/air management)
  • Airline BA support where specified, including suitable back-up/escape provision where required by the system of work
  • Interface support with rescue standby arrangements and emergency readiness (as required by the entry plan)

Assets & locations

  • Tanks, vessels and enclosed plant areas
  • Wet wells, sumps, pits and chambers
  • Pump rooms, valve pits and service corridors
  • Large pipelines, culverts and access tunnels (where man-entry is required)
  • Silos, hoppers and confined internal voids (as scoped)
  • Shutdown environments with multiple workfronts and SIMOPS

Planning, permits & safety

This support is delivered under a confined space safe system of work aligned to your PTW arrangements, isolations and entry controls. Monitoring and ventilation are set to maintain stable conditions for the duration of the entry, with clear communications and defined stop-work thresholds if conditions move outside agreed limits. Where BA is required, it is managed as a controlled system — equipment suitability, readiness and entry monitoring are maintained through the shift rather than treated as a one-time check. We do not use oxygen enrichment as a “fix” for poor air quality; controls are based on proper ventilation/purging and appropriate respiratory protection where required.

Gas Monitoring, Ventilation & BA Support

Arrange gas monitoring & BA support for confined space entries

If you have planned confined space entries where atmosphere control or BA provision is critical, we can support with disciplined monitoring, ventilation and BA management integrated with your permit system. We’ll align to your entry plan and defined roles, then provide the practical controls and records that help your team deliver the work safely and consistently.
